Garage door openers are the electrical part of your garage door system. They provide the power to open and close your garage door, so when your garage door opener is malfunctioning, you’re going to have a hard time getting your car in and out of your garage. With all of the different components within garage door openers, there are many different problems that can affect them.

Three Problems That Affect Garage Door Openers

Here are three of the most common issues that can arise with your garage door opener.

  • Improper opening or closing. Many problems with garage door openers result in the doors not opening or closing at all, but sometimes, the door will open or close part way or otherwise improperly. Oftentimes, there’s an issue within the motor affecting the limit of how far the door is set to open or close.
  • Running motor without movement. If you hear your garage door opener’s motor running but your garage door isn’t moving at all, there’s likely something within the motor malfunctioning or not set correctly. Again, the limit may be improperly set or, more likely, turned off altogether.
  • Burnt motor. Garage door openers don’t last forever, even when regularly and properly serviced by a trained garage door technician. Eventually, the motor within your opener will burn out and need to be replaced to make sure you can get your door open and closed.
